GKN claims ERP cut IT costs in half

Aircraft manufacturer GKN Westland Aerospace, claims it's reduced its IT costs by 50 per cent after it deployed an ERP system to controls all operations at its Cowes headquarters.
The Baan IV system, installed by Cap Gemini, was part of a £2m project to move from a mainframe to a client server environment. The company claims its previous system had not been millennium compliant.
Under the terms of the deal, Cap Gemini provided 18,000 man-hours of training to help staff cope with the system change.
GKN claimed the ERP application now enables the company to easily track aircraft components from manufacture to installation.
